Walter Horishnyk - photographer
As an artist, photographer, poet, and philosopher, Walter has always looked past the obvious, discovering fresh new approaches to design challenges. Technology driven, he learned to use computers in the field of graphic design, and as art director for a publishing house he won a prestigious small press Book Award for Cover Design and Layout Composition.

After picking up a Kodak Brownie Camera at a young age, he found himself drawn towards telling stories through images drawn or made by light. He enrolled at the University of Minnesota, and later the Minneapolis College of Art and Design, studying film photography and fine arts. After 20 years as a photographer, and a lifetime of creating art in other forms, he has received numerous awards and recognition for photographic excellence. His work is now regularly shown in galleries, as well as in public and private collections throughout the Midwest.

Though he enjoys many different art forms, photography has always been a sweet spot for him, and Charanga Tropical’s upcoming trip to Cuba is providing a fresh new world to explore. “I am looking forward to documenting Charanga Tropical in Cuba as well as capturing musicians and the everyday life on the Havana streets,” he says. “This time in Cuban history brings a new dawn, with changes in cross-cultural political, social, economic, and artistic expression. Indeed an exciting time to watch develop and be a part of." Charanga Tropical is excited to have Walter document their experience in Cuba, with his photos and films helping to bring a little of the magic and rhythm back home.
